Dear Old and New Members ,

My Father was Captain and President of this club, and it is now my turn to occupy the office, I do hope that he will still be smiling at the end of the year!
What a year we have ahead of us, and what a time for me to take  the Club along a very exciting road, a road of great expectations, a road of welcoming old and new friends back into the Club, a road of defining the very future of not only the Club, but also the course and the facilities. It may well be a bumpy ride at times, but the legacy that we must leave behind us for the future generations to enjoy far outweighs our own selfish requirements.
I welcome Philip Vermeulen, the new owner of the course, who has arrived and offered far more in a short space of time than we could ever have envisaged, and it is this along with the potential renewal of facilities that gives us all hope for the future of the Club.
So here we go, another year, another Captain. Many thanks to the Immediate Past Captain Steve McGowan, for all his hard work behind the scenes and for all his generosity and ability in difficult times to smile and enjoy his golf, and now I shall follow in his and the other 118 Captain’s footsteps. As I said when I took over the Captaincy, I want to play golf, enjoy a great course and be with people I enjoy being with. That is not a lot to ask, and I ask that each member old or new does exactly the same.
To that end The Captain’s Day will be on June 23rd which will be a day of surprises and prizes that will be collectors’ items in years to come. I have no doubts that we can devise an event to test all of us members including the hardened single figure boys! If I had my way there would be no medal comps, but as a reasonable Captain I understand that some members do enjoy them, but not on Captain’s Day.
I would also like to say to all our sponsors, thank you for sticking with us through thick and thin, it is you who deserve the medals.
There are two people within the club who do a remarkable job, the Secretary and the Competition’s Secretary, and along with the Pro Andy and the green keepers as a club we thank them for their industry on our behalf.

Now go and enjoy the most perfect piece of land that man ever had the privilege to sculpt into a fine golf course…..aren’t we lucky to be able to play here!
